Tiani SPIRIT facilitates Health Information Exchange throughout Europe
Therefore the need for an automatic translation system was identified, and since the different member states use different coding systems within their national infrastructure, an automatic transformation of the national documents into a common “pivot” format was defined.
All these epSOS-specific requirements were in addition to the standard requirements of a large-scale HIE (Health Information Exchange) project. So the standard transactions, like Patient Identification, means of security, document exchange, and others, had to be covered as well.
epSOS decided to use the worldwide leading IHE compliant vendor, and therefore the European Commission entrusted Tiani SPIRIT with the development of the NCP software, which acts as a gateway between the national infrastructure and the international environment within Europe. The different security aspects and requirements were respected, as well as the unambiguous identification of a patient in Europe. In addition to the infrastructure components, Tiani SPIRIT provides a Portal, where healthcare practitioners (doctors, nurses, and pharmacists) throughout Europe are able to search for patients, query and retrieve documents, and submit eDispensation documents, as well as manage the consent document of each “cross-border patient.”
