Why Tiani "SPIRIT" ?

In the eHealth market, software vendors present many different solutions to implement a health information exchange (HIE). Tiani SPIRIT’s solution features functionalities that are not found elsewhere in the market.

Tiani Spirit implements the most comprehensive EHR according to the IHE guidelines. At the IHE Connectathons in both the United States and Europe, Tiani Spirit has consistently demonstrated the ability to connect with significantly more actor/profile pairs than any of our competitors (at the Connectathon US 2011, 79 vs. 48 by our closest competitor). This gives us the ability to connect with the widest range of healthcare IT applications.

Many healthcare providers already have a system in place.  In some cases these systems are not IHE compliant and were not developed to be used in a large-area HIE. With Tiani SPIRIT’s solution, healthcare professionals do not have to change their current systems. The Tiani SPIRIT solution provides a  WebService Stack that easily “translates” proprietary transactions into IHE-compliant, standard transactions, and vice versa.

This technology enables communications between non-IHE-compliant systems and IHE-compliant systems.

The Tiani SPIRIT SpiritEHR is deployed either as a standard server instance or on a Cisco® UCS Express router. The latter provides the opportunity to deploy the EHR directly in the network layer and to use the network as an HIE platform. The deployment in several router instances avoids a “single point of failure,” since the remaining instances can easily take over the tasks of an off-line instance. A further advantage of this deployment strategy is that each router instance provides  Secure Node – Compliancy according to the ISO 27002 standard.

Since data protection and the patient’s privacy are key concerns, the SpiritEHR offers advanced Patient Consent handling complying with the IHE BPPC framework. Furthermore, all data is encrypted and protected during transfer and storage, according to the latest international guidelines of data security and protection.

Due to these proven functionalities, the epSOS Project chose Tiani SPIRIT to interconnect up to 23 European Countries in the epSOS Project. epSOS facilitates the cross-border exchange of Patient Summary Documents and ePrescriptions, across potentially 23 different countries and about 20 different languages and code systems.
The next step, the interconnection between Europe and the United States, was demonstrated at the HIMSS’11 in Orlando. NHIN and epSOS representatives discussed a test and demonstration scenario using the South Carolina HIE, NHIN, epSOS, the Austrian HIE, and a regional hospital in Lower Austria, and thus established as a "proof of concept" the first transcontinental Health Information Exchange.

For the European Union, as well as for the United States, Tiani SPIRIT's federated architecture is a crucial concept. With this strategy, there is no need for a central database or document repository. With Tiani SPIRIT, medical data stays where it is produced. Tiani SPIRIT  sets up the architecture hierarchically, since according to experience the patient flow usually follows geographical points, and it therefore makes sense to “group” healthcare professionals into communities which share a certain set of rules for data exchange.  Of course, Tiani SPIRIT provides means to interconnect several communities to make a wide-area HIE possible.

Tiani SPIRIT supports the creation of medical documentation as well. Healthcare professionals who don't have an EMR installed can use the Tiani SPIRIT Content Creator to produce HL7 – CDA-Level3 documents (i.e., a CCD / C32 – document) and the built-in Content Consumer to read and access structured and unstructured documents.

It is likely that a patient will have documents created in different locations. Many of them contain information that is important for a healthcare professional to see. In order to optimize the clinical workflow, Tiani SPIRIT has implemented the “Merge CDA” functionality, which generates one merged CDA document out of several CDAs across several sources. This gives the healthcare professional the chance to have all of the information about a patient in a single document, thus being able to spend more time treating the patient.

Tiani SPIRIT's content management includes “On Demand Document” functionality that provides the ability to extract structured information from a Level 3 CDA and generate a document according to the specified needs of a healthcare professional or to generate a report for an official authority. Only specifically configured data are included in this ODD.

Why should Tiani-Spirit´s EHR be deployed on a Cisco Infrastructure ?
